A resume fails to parse because of the file itself (its format, size, or text content) or because the AI parsing step fails. The Parse Resumes dialog accepts DOC, DOCX, and PDF files, up to 10 files at once and 30 MB per file. Results appear in the parsing panel: a file that can't be read shows Couldn't parse, and other problems show Failed with the reason. Find your message below.
Resume formatting affects what the parser extracts, so always check the parsed profile and edit anything the parser got wrong before you rely on it.
Cause: The file is a scanned PDF or contains no selectable text. Parsing extracts the text layer from the document and does not run OCR, so a file with 100 characters or fewer of extractable text can't be read.
Fix: Upload a text-based PDF or Word document, then upload it again.
Cause: The file isn't a DOC, DOCX, or PDF. The upload box only accepts those three formats.
Fix: Convert the file to PDF or DOCX and upload it again. Image files, such as a JPEG or a photo of a CV, can't be parsed.
Cause: The file is larger than the 30 MB upload limit.
Fix: Save a smaller version of the file, then upload it again.
Cause: The document couldn't be read during text extraction, so no text reached the AI parser.
Fix: Open the file, re-save or re-export it, and upload it again.
Cause: Text extraction succeeded, but the AI parsing step failed. The parsing service returned an error or output that couldn't be used, and there is no automatic retry. The panel shows Parsing Failed with the number of files that failed to process; hover a file name to see its exact error message.
Fix: Upload the file again. If it fails repeatedly, the file may be difficult for the parser to read: try a different version of the document.
Cause: The uploaded file couldn't be retrieved from storage, often because the upload was empty or corrupted.
Fix: Check the file opens on your computer, then upload it again.
